Not so jolly package causes TN Capitol evacuation

The Associated Press
Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 4:04 p.m.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A package for Tennessee's governor turned out not too jolly for staffers at the Capitol. Safety Department spokesman Mike Browning says officials evacuated the building for almost two hours Wednesday when the mail room found a package addressed to Gov. Phil Bredesen that contained moving parts.

Turned out it was a mechanical Santa Claus.

The department's bomb squad and agents from the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Bureau of Investigation were called. The package was destroyed, revealing the Santa from a company in Georgia.

The governor was not in the building at the time.

You know, if politicians were doing a better job at running things, this probably would not be happening.......

Now why would they evacuate the building, they do have portable xray machines that would tell you immediately what is in the box, and usually they are used for all mail in government buildings...

RALEIGH, N.C. - A North Carolina doctor could lose his medical license after a patient complained he made cutting criticisms, including telling her she was fat. The News & Observer of Raleigh reported the North Carolina Medical Board will decide if Dr. Earl Sunderhaus of Asheville overstepped the bounds of professional decency.
The eye doctor's patient complained Sunderhaus poked her thigh and told her she is fat, and also scolded her as irresponsible for being unemployed and relying on taxpayers to pay for another pregnancy.
Sunderhaus admitted he told the patient that her thick thighs and diabetes could cause her to go blind.
He made his points again by writing the patient, Gov. Beverly Perdue and blasting the medical board.

So instead of simply not going to this doctor anymore, someone has to get their diapers in a tizzy and whine about it.
What happened to individual responisbilty, the abilty to control and have desity at your own hands.......
Turn the channel if you don't like what you see,
If you don't want to be called FAT do somewhere else, or drop some pounds...........

San Francisco looks to bag paper, not just plastic

Published: Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 2:50 p.m.

SAN FRANCISCO — In a city that has already banned plastic shopping sacks, there is a new target: paper bags.
San Francisco Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi on Tuesday introduced legislation,  so stores can reduce the number of bags provided at checkout.
The ordinance, if passed, would require retailers to offer a 10-cent rebate to customers who use reusable sacks.
If the stores fail to comply, they could face fines from $100 to $500.
Mirkarimi says the legislation would help save a chunk of the 14 million trees chopped down each year to make paper bags.
The ordinance would affect some 135 large grocery stores and pharmacies within city limits.

Can't wait for the next volley SF is going to do, how about banning Cars, or maybe cardboard boxes. They is way to wacko.....

Gotta love the unions, Screw public saftey!

Metrolink union sues in LA to halt in-cab cameras

The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES - The union representing Metrolink engineers is suing the Southern California rail authority to halt plans to activate video cameras in its commuter trains.
Metrolink said Tuesday the cameras are intended to increase safety after one of its passenger trains collided with a freight train in September 2008, killing 25 people. The engineer was text-messaging seconds before the crash.
The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen says the cameras are an invasion of privacy and has filed lawsuits in federal and Superior courts in Los Angeles.
Metrolink announced plans earlier this month to activate the in-cab video cameras. The union instead proposes a cell phone jamming system that blocks all incoming and outgoing cell phone calls and texts.

So, my take is that screw public saftey, they just don't want any responbsibily of the action of their union members.......I always thought that when you are getting paid by an employer, it is his time, and screwing off texting and bsing on the phone is a no no.
Guess not?
Or maybe they just don't want to show the train operator playing with himself.....

Another example......you know what I mean?

Laws in San Francisco aim to prevent fat discrimination
Attacking someone for being fat should be a hate crime, campaigners say.
They want so-called "fat-ism" to be made illegal on the same grounds as race, age and religious discrimination.
A demonstration is being held outside the offices of the mayor of London asking him to lead the way in making sure employers are not prejudiced.
Protesters want the UK to follow San Francisco, where a law bans "fat-ism" in housing and employment and stops doctors pressing patients to slim down.
Sondra Solway, a San Francisco lawyer, said: "The San Francisco ordinance says you may want to mention weight to the patient but if the patient says they do not want to talk about that then you are asked to respect those wishes."
Size acceptance
In the UK, size is not a protected characteristic under discrimination legislation.

People who are very overweight do experience a lot of prejudice both in their social life and working life and do need some protection."
Dr Ian Campbell, Weight Concern
The campaigners, who belong to the Size Acceptance Movement, say surveys show 93% of employers would rather employ a thin person than a fat one even if they are equally qualified.

A Hate Crime?

Watch out the thought police are at the back
door, what's next?

And to think people have freedom of speech.
