Teddy bear at Oregon office prompts bomb scare

The Associated Press

ALBANY, Ore. - A teddy bear placed at the front door of the Oregon State Police office in Albany proved to be as harmless as a teddy bear. Employees arriving for work Monday thought it might be a bomb. They evacuated the building, cleared the front parking lot of cars and called in the agency's bomb unit.

An X-ray image showed there were nothing dangerous inside the bear.

No decision had been made about what to do with the animal, which by the afternoon was sitting on a counter in the business office.

I wonder if the police had some reason to think someone wanted to harm them? Typical over reaction.......

Merry Christmas to you too! Not!

Pa. student suspended for wearing Santa suit
The Associated Press
Published: Thursday, December 24, 2009 at 12:55 p.m.

WALLINGFORD, Pa. - A suburban Philadelphia teenager was suspended for a day for wearing a Santa Claus suit to school.

Michael Hance says he told his principal that he planned to wear the suit to Strath Haven High School in Wallingford and hand out candy canes. The 18-year-old senior says the principal told him that wasn't a good idea because it would be a distraction. But he wore the suit anyway, with regular clothes underneath.

Hance got nabbed a few minutes after he walked into his first class on Tuesday. The school district says in a statement that Hance was suspended for the day for "defiance of authority."

Hance says the school could have just given him a detention.

I guess you better listen to authority.......never question, never stray, never do anything to disrupt anything.....

Ok, but what about his motivation?

No breaks for Christmas, after all, let him do that, everybody else will want to do the same thing, right? Can't have a campus of Santa Clauses running around....

Merry Christmas!

NO more Hooters for YOU!

Ariz. teacher on leave for taking choir to Hooters

The Associated Press

PHOENIX - An Arizona music teacher whose students performed at a presidential inauguration event is on administrative leave after taking 40 high school students to a Hooters restaurant.

Paradise Valley school district spokeswoman Judi Willis says choir director Mary Segall accompanied the students to a performance in downtown Phoenix last week, and during the outing, they ate lunch at Hooters.

Willis says Segall explained that the restaurant, known for its waitresses' somewhat revealing attire, was the only place that could accommodate a group of that size. But district officials believe there were other options for lunch in the area.

Segall could not be reached for comment.

The teacher plans on retiring in January, and Willis says she does not know if she'll return before then.

Sounds like someone is trying to put some morality or lack thereof way overboard.I have been to several Hooters, and quite frankly not impressed. Maybe it takes a lot less for to titalize young fellows......sound like a lot over nothing. Also sounds like a hungrey attorney should represent the teacher!

First a Hamburger , Now some Steak....Yuuum!

Fla. woman accused of hitting man with raw steak

The Associated Press

DUNNELLON, Fla. - A 53-year-old was arrested after alledgedly hitting a man in the head with a raw steak. According to a Marion County Sheriff's Office report, the man told deputies Elsie Egan repeatedly hit him with the uncooked meat and slapped his face after he refused a piece of sliced bread. The man said he wanted a bread roll.

Egan denied hitting the man with the steak but did admit to slapping him, saying she did it "so that he could learn."

The man told deputies that Egan was his live-in girlfriend. He declined medical assistance.

Egan was charged with abuse of a disabled adult. According to online records, she has been released on $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court in January. It's unclear if she has an attorney.

Life must be getting stressful, but instead of taking a knife or gun, people resort to some old fashion food.......but now you get locked up for that too!

What is the world coming to when you can slap someone with a Tbone?

I'll just use a length of Chorizo. You do know that in Mexico if this happened every one would wet their pants in laughter.....but no..... the North is waaaay to serious about life!

Rub a burger go to Prison......

Police jail man for rubbing hamburger on his wife's face.

The Associated Press

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - A 25-year-old Port St. Lucie man was arrested for allegedly rubbing a hamburger on his wife's face during an argument. Police said Daniel Boss and his wife got into it late Thursday night and started calling each other names. At some point, the woman apparently poured soda on Boss' hamburger, causing him to grab the sandwich, rub it in her face and start throwing food.

Boss left, but his wife went to the police station to report the incident. Officers arrested him three hours later on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge.

It could not be determined if Boss had an attorney.

Wow....I'll bet he didn't figure he would wind up in the slammer over this. I wonder if doing the same thing with a taco is also punishable?

It sounds like the relationship is doomed....or at least it should be!

Sorry, can't teach you this......

Pa. school drops required fitness class for obese

The Associated Press

OXFORD, Pa. - Obese students at a historically black college near Philadelphia won't have to take a fitness class to graduate after all.

Lincoln University faculty nixed the idea this week amid complaints the so-called "fat course" undermined a school principle of equal treatment.

The school had initiated the policy to address high rates of obesity and diabetes, especially in the African-American community.

About 80 students had gotten e-mails saying they had to take the fitness course to graduate. The plan was to target students with a body mass index of 30 or above. That's considered obese.

Well so much for the value of education and trying to "teach" some one. What about all the people that cry that all the problems with everything is a "lack" of education and opertuinty...

Be Damned I guess. Sad,.... but that's only my opinion.

Police: Confused men try to rob Md. funeral home

The Associated Press

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. - Calvert County authorities are searching for two men who tried to rob a funeral home that they may have mistaken for a bank. Police said the men robbed Lee Funeral Home, next to a PNC Bank, in Owings on Monday. Lt. Steve Jones of the Calvert Investigative Team said an employee told the suspects they weren't in a bank.

The men assaulted one funeral home worker, whose injuries were not life-threatening. It's unclear if the robbers took anything.

Authorities believe the pair later robbed a SunTrust bank in Dunkirk, making away with cash and firing at a person outside who tried to get a look at them. No one was injured.

Four schools were partially locked down during the incidents.

Parents Priorites......

Shopping couple allegedly leave kids alone in cart

The Associated Press

COMMERCE, Ga. - A Georgia couple got so carried away with snagging Black Friday deals that authorities said they left their kids alone in a shopping cart. Banks County Sheriff Charles Chapman told WSB radio that a 35-year-old man and and 31-year-old woman were charged with reckless conduct.

Chapman said the two left their 9-year-old and 9-month-old children in a shopping cart at the Banks Crossing Walmart so they could go shopping.

Chapman said he figured the couple thought the kids would slow them down. The children were not harmed.

How times have changed........ however there are a couple of way of looking at this....

On one hand I can see the invasive tentacle of government and the child protective police squad.....lurking anywhere to find parents to blame for anything even slightly suspect. Like slapping the butt of the brat.....Off to jail!...

On the other hand, when I was growing up parents would let kids play and do stuff unsupervised because there were not kid snatchers.....

And, on the other side, leaving two kids in a shopping cart, based on today's standards...is kind of weird, if not negligent especially if they were not within eyesight.

But that's my twisted opinion.....

Too much time on their hands.......

Ariz. board sued over fish pedicure squabble

The Associated Press

MESA, Ariz. - A conservative watchdog group has filed a lawsuit against an Arizona agency on behalf of a salon owner who uses nibbling fish to remove dead skin from the feet of customers.

The lawsuit filed by Goldwater Institute on Monday says the Arizona Board of Cosmetology overstepped its bounds when it decided the fish perform pedicures and are subject to regulatory control.

Cindy Vong opened Spa Fish Therapy in Gilbert last year and charged customers $30 to plunge their feet into a clean tank filled with fish, which nibble on customers' feet, removing dead skin.

The therapy is popular in Asia and some U.S. states. It uses small fish imported from China.

The board ordered the spa to close because the fish cannot be sterilized. Vong says the move cost her a substantial financial investment and lost business.

I wonder where the Goldwater Institute gets it's money funding? Must be nice to have to find causes to protect some fish..... Why not take the money and effort and do something that might, just might benefit human beings...... So is it a public safety issue or is it an animal rights issue?

What about the rights of the customers to enjoy their dead skin from being nibbled at?

Not so jolly package causes TN Capitol evacuation

The Associated Press
Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 4:04 p.m.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A package for Tennessee's governor turned out not too jolly for staffers at the Capitol. Safety Department spokesman Mike Browning says officials evacuated the building for almost two hours Wednesday when the mail room found a package addressed to Gov. Phil Bredesen that contained moving parts.

Turned out it was a mechanical Santa Claus.

The department's bomb squad and agents from the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Bureau of Investigation were called. The package was destroyed, revealing the Santa from a company in Georgia.

The governor was not in the building at the time.

You know, if politicians were doing a better job at running things, this probably would not be happening.......

Now why would they evacuate the building, they do have portable xray machines that would tell you immediately what is in the box, and usually they are used for all mail in government buildings...

Eye doc may lose license after calling patient fat

The Associated Press

RALEIGH, N.C. - A North Carolina doctor could lose his medical license after a patient complained he made cutting criticisms, including telling her she was fat. The News & Observer of Raleigh reported the North Carolina Medical Board will decide if Dr. Earl Sunderhaus of Asheville overstepped the bounds of professional decency.
The eye doctor's patient complained Sunderhaus poked her thigh and told her she is fat, and also scolded her as irresponsible for being unemployed and relying on taxpayers to pay for another pregnancy.
Sunderhaus admitted he told the patient that her thick thighs and diabetes could cause her to go blind.
He made his points again by writing the patient, Gov. Beverly Perdue and blasting the medical board.

So instead of simply not going to this doctor anymore, someone has to get their diapers in a tizzy and whine about it.
What happened to individual responisbilty, the abilty to control and have desity at your own hands.......

San Francisco looks to bag paper, not just plastic

Published: Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 2:50 p.m.

SAN FRANCISCO — In a city that has already banned plastic shopping sacks, there is a new target: paper bags.
San Francisco Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi on Tuesday introduced legislation,  so stores can reduce the number of bags provided at checkout.
The ordinance, if passed, would require retailers to offer a 10-cent rebate to customers who use reusable sacks.
If the stores fail to comply, they could face fines from $100 to $500.
Mirkarimi says the legislation would help save a chunk of the 14 million trees chopped down each year to make paper bags.
The ordinance would affect some 135 large grocery stores and pharmacies within city limits.

Can't wait for the next volley SF is going to do, how about banning Cars, or maybe cardboard boxes. They is way to wacko.....

Gotta love the unions, Screw public saftey!

Metrolink union sues in LA to halt in-cab cameras

The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES - The union representing Metrolink engineers is suing the Southern California rail authority to halt plans to activate video cameras in its commuter trains.
Metrolink said Tuesday the cameras are intended to increase safety after one of its passenger trains collided with a freight train in September 2008, killing 25 people. The engineer was text-messaging seconds before the crash.
The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen says the cameras are an invasion of privacy and has filed lawsuits in federal and Superior courts in Los Angeles.
Metrolink announced plans earlier this month to activate the in-cab video cameras. The union instead proposes a cell phone jamming system that blocks all incoming and outgoing cell phone calls and texts.

So, my take is that screw public saftey, they just don't want any responbsibily of the action of their union members.......I always thought that when you are getting paid by an employer, it is his time, and screwing off texting and bsing on the phone is a no no.
Guess not?
Or maybe they just don't want to show the train operator playing with himself.....

Another example......you know what I mean?

Laws in San Francisco aim to prevent fat discrimination
Attacking someone for being fat should be a hate crime, campaigners say.
They want so-called "fat-ism" to be made illegal on the same grounds as race, age and religious discrimination.
A demonstration is being held outside the offices of the mayor of London asking him to lead the way in making sure employers are not prejudiced.
Protesters want the UK to follow San Francisco, where a law bans "fat-ism" in housing and employment and stops doctors pressing patients to slim down.
Sondra Solway, a San Francisco lawyer, said: "The San Francisco ordinance says you may want to mention weight to the patient but if the patient says they do not want to talk about that then you are asked to respect those wishes."
Size acceptance
In the UK, size is not a protected characteristic under discrimination legislation.

People who are very overweight do experience a lot of prejudice both in their social life and working life and do need some protection."
Dr Ian Campbell, Weight Concern
The campaigners, who belong to the Size Acceptance Movement, say surveys show 93% of employers would rather employ a thin person than a fat one even if they are equally qualified.

Target to pull 'illegal alien' Halloween costume

Associated Press

A Southern California immigrant rights group has asked Target stores to stop selling an "illegal alien" Halloween costume it says is offensive to immigrants.
The costume, posted on Target's web site, features the mask of an alien with a green card and an orange jumpsuit with "illegal alien" written across the front.

Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, says she wrote an e-mail to the Minneapolis-based retailer Friday calling the costume "distasteful, mean-spirited.

How can this be distaste full? Does the alien look like anything or anybody on earth?
This politically correct crap is becoming way to serious folks!
